A man buying an oil change for his van received a big surprise Wednesday when a large squirrel nest was found in the van's engine.
Photos taken by M&M Automotive in Aloha showed sticks poking out of the engine and the squirrel nest inside. The pink baby squirrels were still in their nest, despite the van owner's drive to the auto shop.
"They're situated in there just right -- they're away from the belts and the coils and the exhaust," said Nick Brandt, the van's owner. "… They have this nice little spot that they're just happy as clams in."
The auto shop suggested Brandt hold off on the oil change and drive the van back home in hopes of reuniting the baby squirrels with their mother.
Brandt said he spotted the mother squirrel when he left his home.
"We just saw this squirrel come out from underneath the van," Brandt said. "So we just pulled the car out, and my wife followed me, and she said that squirrel kind of gave her a dirty look when she pulled out."
